About This Project

The aim of the charity is to improve the lives of those with severe or profound hearing loss by training and providing assistance dogs who will respond to important and life-saving sounds. At the time of application, the charity had five active partnerships in the Bolton area and provided ongoing support and training throughout the life of the partnerships.

Hearing loss is an invisible disability which can cause feelings of isolation, depression and anxiety and in addition to providing a visual indicator of deafness, the group reported that the dogs can make a significant difference in interaction with other people, improving confidence and offsetting these feelings – helping deaf people to leave loneliness behind.

The Trustees were keen to support the continued development of the group and on receiving an application for £1,550, offered £750 on a 50% match funded basis.
